Toda queda machuca: “Fall Of Mesbla” o primeiro CD da My Midi Valentine

Muita gente diz que escrever sobre alguém que você conhece bastante torna o texto tendencioso, ainda mais quando começa com a famosa frase: "Eu sou suspeito pra falar sobre isso". Pois bem, eu não acho que sou suspeito para falar sobre o assunto que me trouxe aqui, mesmo conhecendo bem os artistas envolvidos. Na minha opinião é mais difícil reconhecer o bom trabalho de alguém quando se conhece muito de perto o artista. Pra mim, por alguns fatores como não fantasiar sobre a obra, não idealiza-lá ou mesmo estar inserido na construção do trabalho, pode se tornar mais dificil de reconhecer à grandeza de uma obra, isso no meu caso. Isso é só uma introdução para mostrar porque eu realmente quis escrever esse texto, que enfim, começa aqui:

Marcos Cajueiro (voz, guitarra, baixo, trompete, teclado, violão) e Tales Maia (teclado, baixo, programações) são a My Midi Valentine, um duo de Arapiraca, Alagoas. A banda existe desde 2006, quando o Marcos gravava as músicas no computador junto com o Nando, numa época em que Popfuzz apenas engatinhava. O Tales se juntou ao Marcos em 2008, para que a banda conseguisse realizar shows legais e tocar quase todo o instrumental ao vivo. Eles estão lançando o seu primeiro CD full, denominado "The Fall Of Mesbla", lançamento da Popfuzz Records (popfuzz.com.br) em conjunto com o selo carioca Midsummer Madness (mmrecords.com.br). Enfim, é sobre esse disco que eu devo falar, então lá vai.

O nome do disco é muito bom! A Mesbla faliu faz uns 10 anos e foi lá onde eu comprei os meus primeiros CD’s de rock, assim como eles. A My Midi Valentine toca Adventure pop porque o Marcos criou esse termo. Ele diz que é porque nas músicas tem de tudo: ação, romance, drama, aventura, assim como nos "Goonies" ou no "Conta Comigo". Eu acho que é bem isso mesmo, porque se um filme de aventura une todos esses gêneros, a My Midi, junta vários estilos do Indie Rock: Twee Pop, Cassio Pop, 8-bit, Folk, Synthpop e Pink Floyd, que para o Marcos é a melhor banda do mundo.

Quando eu escutei o disco pela primeira vez eu fiquei com vontade de chorar, fiquei muito orgulhoso e achei ele muito lindo mesmo! É tudo tão triste/feliz como uma música do Belle & Sebastian; tem sintetizador e voz melódica como uma música do Grandaddy (o Tales é fã); tem melodias lindas e belos arranjos como uma canção dos Beach boys; tem vocais dobrados e estendidos como uma música do Pink Floyd (é que o Marcos gosta muito); e até o experimentalismo eletrônico de uma canção do Radiohead.

Um dia desses eu pude beber com o Marcos na calçada do Palato até apagarmos e tive oportunidade de falar o quanto o disco estava bom e que realmente era uma das melhores coisas que eu ouvi nos últimos tempos, isso foi muito bom! Vocês deviam escutar esse CD e passarem a acreditar que tudo pode acontecer, tudo pode ser escrito e transformado em música. Qualquer dor, qualquer alegria, qualquer tristeza, qualquer sentimento! Talvez algum dia um amigo seu faça umas das músicas mais legais que você já escutou, aí vocês vão entender. Eu sei disso porque aconteceu comigo e o meu coração recebeu um abraço de carinho, saudade e até esperança.

A lot of people say that writing about someone you know a lot makes the writing tendentious, even more when it starts with the famous phrase: “I’m suspect to talk about it”. I’m not suspect to talk about it, in my opinion, it’s more difficult to recognize the good work of someone when you know the artist with very closeness. To me, because of some factors like not fantasizing over the work, not to idealize it or even inserted in the making of the work may even distance the greatness of a work, that in my case. This is just an introduction to show why I really wanted to write this piece, that starts around there:

Marcos Cajueiro (vocal, guitar, bass, trumpet, keyboard, acoustic guitar) and Tales Maia (keyboard, bass, programming) are My Midi Valentine, a duo from Arapiraca, Alagoas. The band exists since 2006 when Marcos recorded the songs in the computer together with Nando, when Popfuzz was still crawling. Tales joined Marcos in 2008 for the band to play nice concerts and to play live almost every instrumental. They are releasing their first full CD, called “The Fall of Mesbla” and it’s about this record I’m about to speak.

The name of the record is really good! Mesbla broke around 10 years ago and it was there that I bought my first rock CD’s, just like them. My Midi Valentine plays Adventure Pop because Marcos created that term. He says it’s because there is everything on the songs: action, romance, drama, adventure, just like “Goonies” or “Stand By Me”. I think it’s right because if an adventure movie gather all these genres, My Midi gathers a lot of styles from Indie Rock: Twee Pop, Casio Pop, 8-bit, Folk, Synthpop and Pink Floyd, which, for Marcos, is the best band of the world.

When I listened to the record for the first time I felt like crying, I was very proud and I found it really beautiful! Everything is so sad/happy like a Belle & Sebastian song; it has synthesizer and melodic vocals like a Grandaddy song (Tales is a fan); it has wonderful melodies and beautiful arrangements like a Beach Boys’ song; it has doubled and extended vocals like a Pink Floyd song (Marcos really likes them); and even electronic experimentalism from a Radiohead song.

One of these days I drinked with Marcos on Palato’s sidewalk until we black out and had the opportunity to say how good was the record and that it was really one of the best things I’ve heard in the last times, this was very good! You should listen to this CD and start believing that anything can happen, everything can be written and turned into music. Any pain, any joy, any sadness, any feeling! Maybe someday a friend of yours will make one of the coolest songs you’ve ever heard and then you’ll understand. I know that because it happened to me and my heart received a hug of affection, longing and even hope.
